Bottlenose dolphins develop a unique whistle during their first year of life that contains identifying information. This vocalization is called the "Signature Whistle." Researchers at Dolphins Plus Marine Mammal Responder found that dolphins use this distinctive whistle as a contact call between mothers and calves, or during introductions.
